What a mutation actually does

At a player level, mutations usually toss a multiplier or a special conversion onto loot you were already going to pick up. Instead of learning a new mini-game from scratch, you adjust routes and risk.

Some mutations are weather-flavored, some are event-flavored, some are tied to nightly timers. The pattern: limited window, outsized reward, knowledge advantage for prepared players.

Mutations respect geography. If your mutation boosts heat-themed loot, colder beaches may still benefit indirectly through shared spawn pools — read patch notes when they arrive.

When players say Scorched, they usually mean “this is the spicy window where risk and reward spike.” Sometimes color grading shifts orange-red; sometimes embers pop in particle effects.

During spicy windows, widen your dig lanes but shorten how far you wander from vendors if inventory space is tight. High multipliers do not help loot you lose to despawn or misclicks.

If PvE competition spikes because everyone crowds one beach, rotate to the second-best map with half the players — hourly earnings often win that trade.

Grinding tactics that survive nerfs

Pre-stack inventory space before the window opens. Empty bags convert faster.

Pause rerolls during mutations unless a trait directly speeds digging. Coins usually belong in consumables or travel.
